Did you know that the skincare products you use on a regular basis may be causing breakouts? It is not uncommon for companies to market their products for acne-prone skin, but still contain ingredients known to contribute to the development or worsening of acne. These ingredients could be found in your makeup, skincare products, shampoo, toothpaste, body wash, and laundry detergent.

Despite products saying “won’t clog pores” or “non-comedogenic” on the bottle, there is no government agency overseeing products labels for their suitability or effectiveness in treating acne…meaning that even with those claims, your products may still contain ingredients known to clog the pores and cause acne.

The following ingredients are known to cause and aggravate acne. If you are acne prone or struggling with breakouts, I strongly encourage you to read the labels of the products you are using and avoid those on the list (even in products used infrequently).
